The Summer

Goals for the upcoming school year at SCSDB

Over the summer, the planning team for South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB) met and we developed many goals for the new year at school.  I just knew that my fourth year as a teacher was going to be the best every.  I had resources already prepared.  I hoped to have plenty of time to coordinate with the other teachers and the other departments at school. Life was becoming "comfortable."

The Call

  In early June, I got the phone call.  It was from the Department of Defense Education Activity.  It was an offer to work in Hanau, Germany.  Wow!  How exciting; how scary.  It was the right place, it was the right job, but was it the right time?  That was the big, big question.  I had 48 hours to make a decision.  I prayed, I asked for opinions of many friends, I told my family.  In the end, "it was an offer that I could not refuse."  I said yes.

The Decision

I said yes, but I still felt afraid when I thought about moving.  As the weeks passed, I still had a bad feeling in my stomach every morning when I woke up.  I wondered if that was God telling me to stay in Spartanburg.  But every person I talked with, every sermon I heard, every verse I read, everything told me to go and accept the job in Hanau.  I finally came to the decision that by faith, I must go and let God take care of the rest.

During this time of decision making, I got a chance to attend the Southern Baptist Conference of the Deaf in Ridge Crest North Carolina.  I try to attend this conference every year.  This year it was a bit  stressful for me because I had to drive often back to Spartanburg to coordinate my paperwork for DoDEA.  However it is always wonderful to see old friends at the conference.

Bible Conference

Then finally before I left the States, I drove to Chicago for another Bible conference.  The Summer was truly full, but I did see God's hands at work in my life and around me.  Oh, if we could just humble ourselves and submit to Him, I truly believe life would go more smoothly for many of us.
